Last year, the event raised $12,000 for conservation and this year, GSC officials hope to raise $15,000.

Lindsey Zarecky, the GSC’s VP of Conservation & Research, says, “Funds raised last year supported conservation partners around the globe, helping to protect species including fishing cats, seahorses, Komodo dragons, sharks, monarch butterflies, lemurs, and penguins. Event proceeds also helped to support our local conservation partners, including the Piedmont Land Conservancy. We’re excited to provide a fun evening event that also raises money to help sustain some of the amazing work being done around the world!”

Each Brews & Bubbles ticket includes beer samples from participating North Carolina breweries, a souvenir tasting glass, hors d’oeuvres, and live music from Graymatter and duo Blind-Dog Gatewood & Abe Reid. Capacity is limited and the event tends to sell out, so GSC officials recommend purchasing tickets in advance.

Chipotle “Chips In” to Support the GSC

Image

Make dinner a selfless act by joining Chipotle Mexican Grill for a fundraiser to support the Greensboro Science Center. Stop in for dinner at Chipotle on Westover Terrace and Battleground Ave. on Tuesday, November 19th, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm, and bring this flyer*, show it on your smartphone or just tell the cashier and they’ll donate 50% of the proceeds to the GSC’s Animal Enrichment Fund.

The GSC’s Animal Enrichment Program has been carefully crafted by zookeepers to enhance animals’ lives by providing objects designed to increase their natural behavior, such as digging, foraging and problem solving. As the GSC’s animal collection continues to grow, the organization is seeking funds to purchase additional enrichment objects that will continue to provide the highest quality of life possible for each animal.

Zookeepers Don Bowling Shoes

On May 1, many of our zookeepers will be trading their work boots for bowling shoes in support of Bowling for Rhinos.

AAZK

AAZK

According to the AAZK (American Association of Zoo Keepers), there were once over 100 species of rhino. Today, only 5 species exist: the white, black, greater one-horned, Sumatran and Javan rhinos. All five species are endangered, primarily due to poaching. Rhinos are only safe on protected sanctuaries where they cannot be killed by poachers. The AAZK started Bowling for Rhinos to raise money to fence in some of these sanctuaries, buy planes and vehicles to patrol for poachers, buy cameras and pay for anti-poaching security, among other things.

Each bowler is responsible for raising a minimum of $25 to participate and with Bowling For Rhinos’ total goal of $500,000 this year, our zookeepers could certainly use your support to raise as much as possible! If you would like to contribute to this worthy cause, just drop some cash into the adorable rhino heads located at our admissions desks. Every dollar and cent helps and we appreciate your concern for these magnificent creatures!
